Spiritual Nurture Classes

During Spiritual Nurture, the Christ Church Day School Chaplain and the children explore the meaning of the lessons presented in the Chapel services in an age appropriate way. These lessons are used to support our school theme, Rooted in Love.

The curriculum is selected based on each individual grade level.

Junior Kindergarten through Grade 2: Godly Play

Godly Play is a creative, imaginative approach to Christian formation and spiritual guidance. It nurtures students to larger dimensions of belief and faith through wonder and play. Godly Play values process, openness, discovery, community, and relationships.

Grade 3 through Grade 6 – Lectionary Based

Upper grade students follow the church lectionary, a three year cycle of readings. The students hear the reading in Chapel during the week and study it during Spiritual Nurture classes. The study falls into four parts:

  1. Learning to navigate the Bible
  2. Understanding the audience for each book and why it is important
  3. Learning the time of year certain readings are shared
  4. Exploring how the readings connect to the students’ lives

Additionally, intentional virtues are an integral piece of our Rooted in Love focus. Below is a calendar our virtues:

  • September – Belonging
  • October – Respect
  • November – Responsibility
  • December – Patience

  • February –Honesty
